AI assistant
AI turns on only if you turn it on
Some apps turn AI on for you. fin does not: until you connect your provider, AI receives nothing and the app works fully. If you want it, you turn on an assistant that answers questions about your finances.
- Ask where the money went and how much is left until month end
- Entry in plain language and a written monthly summary
- Recurring entry suggestions from your past expenses
- Read-only access for your own AI assistant too, via MCP
- Rule-based quick entry
- Monthly summary from your numbers
- Alerts for price rises and subscriptions
Off by default
New accounts have AI off. All core features work without it, including quick entry, the monthly summary and alerts.
Your provider, your account
fin has no AI provider of its own. You connect your own key, and costs and data processing run through your contract with the provider.
You have the final say
The assistant only reads data. Suggested entries are saved only once you confirm them, and you remove the connection with one click.
Security and privacy
Your data is yours alone
fin has no access to your bank and shows no ads. The app is developed and maintained by the Slovenian company UniCode s.p., and sign-in is built on modern security practices.
Argon2id
Passwords are hashed with a modern algorithm and never stored in readable form.
Rotating tokens
A short-lived access token and a refresh token in a secure HttpOnly cookie.
Revocable sessions
See all signed-in devices and sign them out at any time.
With you everywhere
Phone, tablet or computer – no installation, in the browser.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Does fin connect to my bank?
No. You add entries yourself – quickly, on one line or from your phone – or import them from an existing Excel sheet. fin has no access to your bank account.
Can I import my existing Excel?
Yes. In Settings you upload the .xlsx, name the accounts by row colour, and fin imports the months, forecasts, instalments and opening balances.
How are shared expenses split?
By default by each person's share of earnings in the month (e.g. 70 % / 30 %) or equally. You invite members by email and record settlements with one click.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. fin is built for phones and tablets: bottom navigation, quick entry and forms that open from the bottom. No installation needed – it runs in the browser.
Where do investment prices come from?
Prices are refreshed automatically from public sources (Yahoo Finance) and converted to your currency at the official ECB rate. They may be delayed and are for information only; you can always enter a price by hand. fin does not give investment advice.
Does the loan match the bank's schedule?
Enter the amount, interest rate and term, and optionally the instalment and closing balance from the bank's schedule. fin calculates the amortisation schedule, including extra repayments, rate changes and moving due dates to the next working day.
Do I have to enter every bill by hand?
No. Recurring bills and income appear on their own; on the due date you confirm them with one click, or fin creates the entry automatically. The same goes for card statements and loan instalments.
Does fin use AI?
Only if you turn it on yourself. Without a connected provider, fin sends your data to nobody for AI processing and the app works fully. AI features require your own API key from the provider Anthropic. The key is stored encrypted, and you pay the provider directly.
What data goes to the provider when AI is on?
Only what the feature you use needs: the text you type, monthly summaries, recurring expenses when looking for suggestions, and the data you ask the assistant about. This is described in detail in settings before you connect a key. The assistant does not see other group members' data, and conversations are not stored.
How is my data protected?
Passwords are hashed with Argon2id, and sign-in uses a short-lived access token and a rotating refresh token in a secure cookie. You can revoke any session at any time.
